What to do After Purchasing Your New Vehicle

Purchasing a new vehicle is exciting! Whether it’s your first vehicle or an upgrade. Once the paperwork is signed and keys are in hand, there are a few important steps to take to protect your investment, stay legal, and enjoy your new ride with peace of mind.

 

REVIEW YOUR PAPWORK CAREFULLY

Before tucking everything away, double-check your documents:

-Bill of Sale

-Purchase Agreement

-Financing/lease paperwork

-Warranty Info

 

UPDATE YOUR AUTO INSURANCE

Contact your Insurance Account Advisor as soon as possible to:

-Add the new vehicle to your policy (Info Needed to provide: VIN, year, make, model, & if vehicle is being financed. If so, name and address of financial institution)

-Remove your old vehicle if applicable

-Confirm coverages and driver assignment

-Receive proof of insurance (Auto ID card, Auto policy, and lienholder evidence of insurance – if necessary)

 

REGISTER YOUR VEHICLE

If the dealership does not handle registration for you, visit your local DMV promptly. You will need to:

-Transfer the title

-Register the vehicle

-Obtain license plate or tag

 

WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU WHEN REGISTERING VEHICLE

To register your vehicle at the DMV, you typically need to bring the following items:

-Driver’s license

-Proof of Insurance

-Title or signed lease agreement

– Bill of Sale (If applicable)

– Payment for registration fee
